Ancient Hebrew

The Ancient Hebrew army (list 23) is very viable in the Biblical era, especially the "later" version, during the era of all those bad kings in the books of the Prophets in the Old Testament, with a command rating of 3, and access to heavy chariot impact!
Compulsory elements are 4 light infantry and four ordinary medium swordsmen. Around these elements, the army can comprise a variety of interesting options, partly depending on the selection of one of a number of possible allies.
Up to 8 light chariot bow and/or heavy chariot impact can be chosen, and up to four of these can be elite. A heavy chariot command is the army's main strike force, and some of the compulsory light infantry can be used to screen the chariots from bow fire on the advance to contact.

The sole light cavalry unit available in the army list can be useful to cut off the retreat of enemy units who would prefer to evade your heavy chariots, or act as a speed bump to slow down an enemy Corps. With a maximum initiative of 1, the Hebrews are likely to be on the defensive most of the time.

Two allied options which are worth considering are:
(a) Aramean and neo-Hittite, (list 26) which gives you even more chariots ( although only half of them can be heavy) and
(b) Libyan Egyptian, (list 15) which gives you a hefty infantry corps including elite Impetuous swordsmen ( which will be really nasty against opposing spear-armed infantry). Deploy them in front of your camp, with their light infantry 2 UD in front of the battle line, and don't do what I did at Warfare one year and roll 1 for their activation in 4 games out of 5!
