Game 2 in Seville

Against New Kingdom Egyptian

After a short and hurried 3.5 hour lunch break, with beer, cheese, meat, fish , more meat, bread and coffee the afternoon draw threw me up against the Portuguese Egyptians.

The terrain fell oddly, with a large dune in my forward central sector, and then three more orchards cluttering it even further. I chose to pack my army in the open corner, and threw a warband command on as a flank march, hoping to turn the axis of the game and take on the more maneuverable Egyptians on a narrow frontage where they would be unable to avoid the warband who could eat their blades and bowmen.

This plan paid off immediately, as the flank march arrived on turn 1 - unmasking the 4th Egyptian command who were hiding in another orchard.

The Egyptian General was unable to do anything about the tide of superior auxilia sweeping through the trees and his command was soon facing total elimination.

Soon a Stalingradesque cauldron was formed, with Egyptians pouring into it, trying desparately to prevent the jaws closing shut.

The fast advancing warband and elephants caught the Egyptains by surprise, closing down their flanks as they dithered about which threat to face.

As chariotry arrived, it looked like they were going to be too late...

Carthaginian general Hannibal indicated to his troops the importance of finishing off the Egyptian Micro Command to cut down the Egyptians to only 3 dice

At times it looked as if a second Egyptian command was likely to be elminated..

The jaws of the trap slammed shut. The Egyptians had been crushed inside 9 turns.

Post Match Analysis

The Egyptians failed to predict the Carthaginians concentration, and started with their forces spread across the whole table  - and even with 4 regular dice they simply did not have time to redeploy in time to react to the flank march. Coupled with the relative lack of Cv (S) in the Egyptian list, this was always going to be tough for the Pharoh's lads.
