FoG Renaissance - Revolution & Turmoil in the UK 1639-1688

The Southern League 2013 - London Round

The London round of the Southern League 2013 covered the period of Revolution & Turmoil in the UK 1639-1688, allowing a choice of armies from Early Caroline English, Scots Covenanter, Scots Royalist, Confederate Irish, Early ECW Royalist, ECW Parliamentarian, Later ECW Royalist, New Model Army, Restoration British, Covenanting Rebels, Monmouth Rebellion

The lists for all of the armies from this event can soon be seen here in the FoG Renaissance Wiki.

In the end 16 players took part in the one-day 2-game event, with the following outcome:

First round draw

  • (Royalist) Brian Holmes Scots Royalist vs Paddy Bray Irish Confederate (Sort of both)
  • (Royalist) Chris Beesley Scots Royalist vs Tim Myall Parliamentarian (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Don Avis Later Royalist vs David Allen Scots Royalist (Royalist)
  • (Royalist) Don McHugh Early Royalist vs Dave Saunders Parliamentarian (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Jim Gibson Scots Royalist vs Gordon Jamieson Scots Covenanters (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Martin van Tol Later Royalist vs Peter Foster Scots Covenanters (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Ray Boyles Scots Royalist vs Geoff Punshon Parliamentarian (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Keith Spedding Scots Royalist vs Alasdair Harley Scots Covenanters (Parliament)

The draw was intended to keep as many Parliament/Royalist games as possible, and keep the Central London players apart. It gave the following table after round 1

  • (Royalist) Jim Gibson Scots Royalist - 25
  • (Parliament) Alasdair Harley Scots Covenanters - 24
  • (Royalist) Don Avis Later Royalist - 22
  • (Royalist) Don McHugh Early Royalist - 18
  • (Parliament) Tim Myall Parliamentarian - 15
  • (Parliament) Geoff Punshon Parliamentarian - 12
  • (Royalist) Brian Holmes Scots Royalist - 11
  • (Parliament)Peter Foster Scots Covenanters - 11
  • (Sort of both) Paddy Bray Irish Confederate - 9
  • (Royalist) Martin van Tol Later Royalist - 9
  • (Royalist) Ray Boyles Scots Royalist - 8
  • (Parliament) Dave Saunders Parliamentarian - 7
  • (Royalist) Chris Beesley Scots Royalist - 5
  • (Royalist) David Allen Scots Royalist - 3
  • (Royalist) Keith Spedding Scots Royalist - 1
  • (Parliament) Gordon Jamieson Scots Covenanters - 0

This gave a rather tidy draw for Round 2

  • (Royalist) Jim Gibson Scots Royalist vs Alasdair Harley Scots Covenanters (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Don Avis Later Royalist vs Don McHugh Early Royalist (Royalist)
  • (Parliament) Tim Myall Parliamentarian vs Geoff Punshon Parliamentarian (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Brian Holmes Scots Royalist vs Peter Foster Scots Covenanters (Parliament)
  • (Sort of both) Paddy Bray Irish Confederate vs Martin van Tol Later Royalist (Royalist)
  • (Royalist) Ray Boyles Scots Royalist vs Dave Saunders Parliamentarian (Parliament)
  • (Royalist) Chris Beesley Scots Royalist vs Dave Allen Scots Royalist (Royalist)
  • (Royalist) Keith Spedding Scots Royalist vs Gordon Jamieson Scots Covenanters (Parliament)

After another round the final table ended up like this

  • (Royalist) Don Avis Later Royalist - 22+18 = 40
  • (Parliament) Alasdair Harley Scots Covenanters - 24 +14 = 38
  • (Royalist) Jim Gibson Scots Royalist - 25+6 = 31
  • (Royalist) Martin van Tol Later Royalist - 9+21=30
  • (Parliament) Dave Saunders Parliamentarian - 7+22=29
  • (Parliament) Geoff Punshon Parliamentarian - 12+15=27
  • (Royalist) David Allen Scots Royalist - 3+24=27
  • (Royalist) Brian Holmes Scots Royalist - 11+15=26
  • (Royalist) Don McHugh Early Royalist- 18+7 = 25
  • (Royalist) Keith Spedding Scots Royalist - 1+22=23
  • (Parliament) Tim Myall Parliamentarian - 15+5 = 20
  • (Parliament)Peter Foster Scots Covenanters - 11+5=16
  • (Sort of both) Paddy Bray Irish Confederate - 9+4=13
  • (Royalist) Ray Boyles Scots Royalist - 8+3=11
  • (Royalist) Chris Beesley Scots Royalist - 5+1=6
  • (Parliament) Gordon Jamieson Scots Covenanters - 0+3=3

For those who care about the future of the country, the real result that mattered was as follows:

  • Royalists = 230
  • Parliament & Irish & Covenanters = 146
  • So, even allowing for there being slightly more Royalists, the event represents a decisive victory for The King!
