Roll Call 2006 Game 2

My Opponents List  - Lithuanian!!

Saturday afternoon came rather soon after the sweaty morning with its map2.jpg (25087 bytes)

My first ever Lithuanian Civil war. Possibly the first in History..?

Unsurprisingly the two armies were similar in composition - and in fact, the Teutonic commands were identical.

It is odd when you can say "this command is the same as the last one deployed"

It is even odder when you can say it after you opponent deploys it!

The deployments were almost mirror images too, with LH and artillery, blades and wagons, Teutons, and then auxilia, wagons and LH facing each other across the table from left to right in the above picture.

Small advantages may count big in this game, and in the middle I had one more blade - and a solid line rather than one split by a wagon. The enemy Lithuanians also had a lot more Bw (I) - who were forced into the front line by the need to match frontage across an open table.

My men were confident in the face of the usurpers to their Lithuanian crown.

My Teutons were also deployed more positively - or rashly, depending on where you sat...

And the usually totally useless death-fodder 2 Cv (O) suddenly looked like a wise investment on my right.

The blade lines clashed, and I was fighting against wagons in 2 places

I also was able to force Auxilia into Bw (I) in several places

But, on a cramped table, there seemed no sensible way to insert the Teutons without having a crack at a Wagon whist taking on their brethren from another branch of the Order

As is always the case in games of matched armies, it came down to luck. The Darth Vader-esque Anti-Teuton General carved a way through the forces of light, but was then exploded by a light (sabre-wielding) horse !!

Bizarrely, the Cv (O) for once lived up to their billing, and were providing a key advantage on my right, as I was winning the Light Horse Lottery through the expedient tactic of having better balls (erm..?)

My blade advantage had resulted in a series of tank-kills against the Anti-Rigans wagons, and I was 4 panzers to 1 up as the game drew towards its conclusion.

Finally, these series of slight advantages across the park played out to their inevitable conclusion, and it was a 10-0 (15-0) win to me!!

Post Match Analysis

Identical armies, similar deployments - but in the end a combination of the Bw (I) proving to be the weakest link when faced with auxilia, and the 2 Cv (O) actually proving useful gave me advantages I could actually exploit.

The excitement of the 1950's is still with us you will be pleased to know!

More Hammytastic Analysis.

"Ouch" means "The Teutons scored a 1 after the General died"
