Samurai test their bowstrings....

Sunday, Sunday... So Good To Me..., and with 40 points to our credit, we were not doing that bad. Not doing that good either, but as a consolation, Eric and Kevin had been hammered the day before, and had dropped out of contention, whilst Nick & Dave and Simon and Terry both had tough draws to play. The McNeils were still bogged down in the mire of the 5-5 zone....so another 40-or so today and things looked very rosy indeed.

After another early morning start - this time with breakfast at Mick's all new B&B (reasonable rates - for an inflatable bed on the floor of the living room - or so Mick told me...) we were teed up against Dave Madigan and his Kiwi mate Ivan (yes, I know, it makes no sense to me neither...) with a load of Samurai 

We had deployed right to left Commands 2,1,3,4 - and were facing (R-L) a set of fanatic Monks, and then 3 30 EE + Bw (S) / Ax (I) blocks - no Irr Bd (F) in this Samurai army!  

Having played this game before at the Worlds earlier this year (OK - against Indians, but it's broadly similar, lots of Bw (S), but without the dangerous stuff), we were in confident mood - and clearly our opponents felt equally as confident as they charged across the table first move out. 

We too charged forwards at full speed, soon both lines were almost within smelling distance. 

The Samurai (I'm sure I can insert some joke about a Japanese clan involving the word "kiwi, but can't think of it just yet - if you can, please e-mail me at imcrap @ madaxeman.com and Ill include it and credit you!) rolled onwards - ending just outside 4" of our line. Not believing our luck, we charged back at them, ending nose-to-nose with the entire line, with our theoretically deadly combination of Ax(S), El and Bd (F) ready to tear into the line.

The Samurai drew back their bowstrings, and shot - working down our line it was 

thud - missed

thud - missed

thwack! - got one ! (oh dear oh dear - we only 21.5 EE in the CinC's command... only 6.5 more he he he he ...)

thud- missed

6-1 ...Got One! Oh.... Actually, you've got the CinC....erm, ....oh  well, erm, erm, erm, we'll survive the dice roll....

thud - missed...

and so it continued to the end of the bound. 

Our turn came around way too soon - without our CinC's command we would be lost - a huge hole would open up in our center, we would have exposed flanks, it would be horrible, truly horrible.... and so the pressure was on Mick to roll the bones, and score enough not only to keep us in the game - but to keep our chances alive for the whole damn 16 games, 1 year, 800 miles of motorway driving, 4 curries, 75 pints of lager, 6 cans of Red Bull on the way home, 3 meetings at work fallen-asleep in on Monday mornings damn shooting- match championship malarkey.......
